Each year, the New Richmond Area Centre hosts a Winter Carnival to celebrate local youth and families in our community. Bring the whole family to celebrate the Centre’s 11th birthday in 2020! Healthy refreshments will be provided by PowerUp and Westfields Hospital & Clinic, and local businesses will be on hand to offer free and fun activities. Come for BINGO play from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and stay for prize drawing every 30 minutes.
If your kids are bored with increased indoor time during winter, this experience will provide a whole new STEM-inspired perspective on winter weather. The Science of Winter is a 1-day workshop held in conjunction with UW-Extension. Students meet at the Friday Memorial Library for a hands-on exploration of winter weather, and the chemistry and physics principles that govern it behind the scenes. Uncover the mysteries of winter weather, and never be bored by winter weather again!
Flea markets aren’t just for warm weather! Check out the New Richmond winter flea market sale — a scaled-down version of the summer Farmstead Flea Market sales. Don’t worry about bundling up, because you’ll find this flea market in the New Richmond Heritage Center’s heated pavilion. The sight of vintage furniture sales in the upper level of the dairy barn is worth the trip from Hudson — if you’re willing to brave the cold! If you can’t make it this time, there are a handful of winter flea markets scattered through the winter months.
Come warm up with locally-brewed beer and fresh hot pizza. Brewmaster John Moore started Barley John’s in his Northeast Minneapolis garage over 20 years ago, followed in 2016 by a production brewery in New Richmond. Among their unique craft brews you’ll find their own The Dilly Ale, Crossing Croix Pilsner, and Red Eye Chelada, as well as interesting guest beers like St. Croix Cream Ale.
Experience a historic New Richmond winter and explore our shared heritage at our local history museum! The New Richmond Preservation Society, Inc. was chartered in 1982, and continues today working to preserve local history. Examine genuine New Richmond artifacts while you wander one of 12 historic buildings — including a real one-room schoolhouse, general store, blacksmith shop, immigrant cabin, and an elegant Victorian Home. If the winter chill is mild, head outside to the 11 acres of walking trails!
